Jonas Lund (b. 1984, Sweden) makes art about the systems that make art valuable — algorithms, authorship, the market itself — then lets those systems run the piece.
In 2013 he built an algorithm to predict art-market prices. In 2018 he turned his own practice into a cryptocurrency-run DAO. Both projects are more self-aware than most gallery press releases.
Collected by Centre Pompidou, Stedelijk Amsterdam, MACBA Barcelona, and — improbably — the European Central Bank. Our piece is No. 5 of 54,000. Rotation pending; negotiations ongoing.
